Monthly Group Ride Saturday – Sunday October 13 – 14th
This month’s ride is a camp and ride event at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky (about 2.5 hrs away from Cincy). We have a film crew shooting a promotional video for Piston Society and you could be featured in it! If you’ve not been there before, its a beautiful geological state and national park with over 120 natural bridge rock formations, tunnels, hiking and some of the best country roads to ride on in the area. You will have fun – guaranteed.
We want to highlight products sold in the store, so wear gear you have bought from us and you’ll have a better chance of showing up in the final edits. Ride a vintage (or vintage looking) bike and you’ll likely get more air time. But most everyone will likely be a part of the video experience.
It looks like cabins in the area are totally booked up (unless there are last minute cancellations if you want to check). And Hotels are booking up fast too. Camping… there is always camping available. But I don’t think we’ll be able to get a central cabin arrangement like we had hoped to do. If you are in need of a room, the Campton Parkway Inn has a few at $80 and Abner’s Motel in Stanton (not Slade) has a few rooms from $65-$90 of various sizes. Also re-check hotels that are more central to our main location to see if they have cancellations. So if a room is what you require, book it NOW!
Our central meeting spot will be our RV at the Middle Fork Campground on State Route 11. We will be located in Space B026 where wewill be located Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This will be our central meeting space to plan the rides, coordinate with the film crew and enjoy food, drink and campfires together. We launch Saturday morning at 11AM someet us there. It seems that people really like the RRG that weekend, something about fall leaves, spectacular color, etc. that make people book lodging a year in advance! It will also be chillier than recent 80-90 degree days, so bring appropriate cool weather camping gear, fleeces, non-mesh jackets, etc. If you wouldlike, Tim can haul your gear down in the RV if you can get it to the shop by the end of the day Thursday.
For tent camping look at MIguels Pizza for a very social place with amenities. Red River Gorge Campground has primitive tent camping for $10. There are dozens of back country sites in the national park that are first come first served including car camping at spots in the park such as Koomer Ridge Campground. Lots of places to pitcha tent randomly. Outside the park are motels as discussed above and also places like 4GuysRVPark.com which has some tent camping too (but outside of the park). More places to “reserve camping” would include: http://landofthearches.com/ and https://lagolinda.com/campground/ (20 minutes south of RRG proper).

The beach has hard-packed sand where driving is permitted in designated areas. Near the boardwalk’s rides and arcades, Daytona Beach Bandshell stages free summer concerts. Steps from the beach, Daytona Lagoon water park offers go-karts, laser tag and waterslides.
